Nuie Shower Doors: Your essential buying guide
Measure the finished opening at the top, middle and bottom, as walls may not be perfectly straight. Use the smallest measurement and check the product’s adjustment range to make sure the shower door can be fitted securely.
Sliding and bi-fold shower doors are often practical for smaller bathrooms because they do not need a wide outward swing. Pivot and hinged doors can still work well if there is enough clear floor space in front of the shower.
Framed shower doors have more visible metalwork around the glass, semi-frameless designs reduce the amount of framing, and frameless doors use minimal fixings for a cleaner look. Your choice may depend on style, budget, glass thickness and the level of adjustment needed for fitting.
The opening direction should allow easy entry without hitting toilets, basins, radiators or furniture. Some shower doors are reversible, but you should always check the fitting information before comparing options.
Check the exact opening size, the shape of the shower area, wall condition, tray position and whether you need left or right-hand fitting. Also compare glass style, frame finish and seal design so the replacement suits both the space and the existing bathroom fittings.
A shower door affects how the bathroom looks, how easy the shower is to access and how well the enclosure works day to day. Comparing the main styles and measurements before you buy can help you narrow down suitable options quickly.
Sliding shower doors are useful where floor space is limited, as the panels move along a track rather than opening out into the room. Bi-fold doors are another space-saving option, folding inwards or compactly to create access without a large swing arc.
Pivot and hinged shower doors can create a wide, simple entrance, but they need enough clearance outside the shower. Before comparing these styles, check nearby fixtures such as basins, toilets and towel rails so the door can open comfortably.
Accurate measurements are essential for shower doors. Measure the finished gap after tiling or wall panels are in place, and take readings at several heights to allow for slight variations in the walls.
Many shower doors include an adjustment range, which can help with small differences in wall alignment. Compare the minimum and maximum fitting widths rather than relying on the headline size alone.
Clear glass gives a bright, open look and can help a bathroom feel larger. Frosted, fluted or patterned glass can add privacy and soften the appearance of the shower area.
Frame finishes such as chrome, black, brushed brass or white can be used to coordinate with taps, shower sets and other bathroom details. A consistent finish can make the shower door feel more integrated with the wider room design.
A shower door needs to suit the layout it is being fitted into, whether that is a recess, a corner enclosure or a door-and-side-panel arrangement. The tray size, wall finish and fixing points all affect which designs are appropriate.
If you are planning a full shower update, compare the door alongside the tray, shower fittings and wall surface so the dimensions and style work together from the start.
Smooth glass panels and simple frame designs can be easier to wipe down, while detailed tracks and seals may need more regular attention. Look at how the door opens, where water will run, and whether seals appear straightforward to maintain.
Access is just as important as appearance. Consider who will use the shower most often and whether a wider entrance, lower threshold or easier handle position would make the door more practical.
