AovoPro Electric Scooters: Your essential buying guide
Look at the stated range, maximum rider weight, motor power, folded size, scooter weight, tyre type, braking system and lighting. If you need to carry it onto public transport or store it in a flat, weight and folding design can be just as important as range.
Privately owned electric scooters are subject to UK road-use restrictions, and rules can differ from rental trial schemes. Before buying, check the latest guidance for where you live and where you plan to ride, especially for public roads, cycle lanes and pavements.
Choose a range that comfortably exceeds your typical return journey, as real-world distance can be affected by rider weight, hills, speed setting, tyre pressure, temperature and riding style. A higher stated range can be useful if you do not want to charge after every ride.
Pneumatic tyres usually offer more cushioning on uneven surfaces, while solid tyres reduce the risk of punctures. If you ride over rough paths or cobbles on private land, comfort may matter more; if low maintenance is the priority, solid tyres may be worth considering.
Prioritise reliable brakes, front and rear lights, reflectors, a stable deck, good grip and tyres suited to the surfaces you use. A clear display, bell and water-resistance rating can also be useful, but always match the scooter to safe, legal riding conditions.
Electric scooters vary widely in portability, comfort, power and everyday practicality. Use this guide to compare the features that matter most before you choose a model.
Start with how far you plan to ride, where you will store the scooter and whether you need to lift it regularly. A compact folding model is easier to carry and tuck away, while a larger scooter may offer a more planted feel and a roomier deck.
For short, occasional rides, simple controls and low weight may be enough. For longer private-land routes, compare battery capacity, comfort features and the time it takes to recharge.
The quoted range is a useful comparison point, but it is not a guarantee for every rider or route. Hills, cold weather, heavier loads and frequent acceleration can reduce how far a scooter travels between charges.
If the scooter will be used regularly, look at charging time and whether the battery is built in or removable. A removable battery can be more convenient if your storage space is not near a plug socket.
Tyre size, tyre type, suspension and deck width all affect how stable and comfortable the scooter feels. Larger tyres and suspension can help on uneven surfaces, while lighter models may feel more responsive in tighter spaces.
Compare braking systems carefully. Some scooters use electronic braking, disc brakes, drum brakes or a combination, and the right choice depends on the surfaces and speeds involved.
If you need to carry the scooter upstairs, into a car boot or onto permitted transport, check the folded dimensions and total weight before focusing on headline speed or range. Handlebar height and folding latch design can also affect day-to-day convenience.
For home storage, consider whether the scooter can stand securely, how much floor space it needs and whether mudguards, kickstands and cable routing look robust enough for regular use.
An electric scooter is typically chosen for compact, lightweight personal travel, but it is not the only electric mobility option. If you are still deciding between formats, comparing it with nearby electric vehicle categories can help you choose the most practical fit.
Hoverboards, mobility scooters and electric mopeds serve different needs, from leisure use to supported mobility or longer powered journeys. Keep your choice focused on where you can ride safely and legally.
