Electric Vehicles

For short urban journeys, compact electric scooters and electric mopeds are often worth comparing first, especially if you want a powered alternative for regular trips. Consider how far you need to travel, whether the vehicle must be carried or parked, and how simple it is to charge at home.

For leisure use, hoverboards offer a different riding style and are usually chosen for balance-based fun rather than practical commuting. Think about rider confidence, protective equipment and where it can be used safely.

Mobility scooters are designed around support, stability and ease of use. When comparing them, look at seating comfort, controls, turning space, storage, battery range and whether the model is suitable for indoor use, outdoor use or a mix of both.

Also consider how the scooter will be stored and charged. Foldable or travel-friendly designs may suit some shoppers, while others may prefer a sturdier option for regular outdoor journeys.

Battery range is one of the key comparison points, but it should be judged alongside rider weight, terrain, riding mode and typical journey length. A longer quoted range is not always necessary if you only make short trips and can charge conveniently.

Charging time and storage space matter too. Before choosing, check whether the vehicle can be stored securely, whether it fits through doorways or into a vehicle if needed, and whether the charger and battery arrangement suit your routine.

Different electric vehicles may be subject to different UK rules depending on their design and where they are used. Always check the latest guidance for public roads, pavements, cycle lanes and private land before making a purchase.

Safety features such as brakes, lights, reflectors, tyres and audible alerts can make a real difference. Protective gear and visibility accessories may also be worth comparing, particularly for riders using their vehicle outside.

Accessories can help with comfort, upkeep, storage and visibility, but compatibility is important. Check sizing, fittings, power requirements and manufacturer guidance before choosing add-ons or replacement parts.

Useful accessories may vary by vehicle type. A scooter rider may need different storage or safety items from someone buying a mobility scooter or hoverboard, so compare accessories with your exact use case in mind.
