Delsey Cabin Bags: Your essential buying guide
Check the hand luggage rules for the airline or transport provider you use most often, as size and weight limits can vary. If you travel with different airlines, a compact cabin bag or under-seat design may give you more flexibility.
Hard-shell cabin bags can help protect contents and are easy to wipe clean, while soft-sided cabin bags often offer outer pockets and a little more give when packing. The better choice depends on whether protection, organisation or flexible storage matters most to you.
Four-wheel spinner cabin bags are easy to manoeuvre on smooth airport floors, while two-wheel designs can feel steadier on uneven pavements and may offer slightly more internal space. Consider where you will use the bag most.
Look for a sturdy telescopic handle, secure zips, practical internal dividers and straps to hold clothing in place. External pockets, laptop compartments and expandable sections can also be useful, provided they still suit your travel size limits.
A cabin bag can work well for short trips or minimalist packing, especially when paired with packing organisers. For longer travel, bulky clothing or multiple pairs of shoes, you may need a larger suitcase as well.
The right cabin bag should balance airline-friendly sizing with practical packing space and easy movement through stations, airports and hotels. Use ShopSmarty to compare available options and spot sale opportunities across different carry-on styles.
Cabin bag dimensions are one of the most important details to compare. A bag that looks compact can still exceed certain hand luggage limits once handles, wheels and pockets are included.
Think about how you pack. A slim under-seat bag may be enough for an overnight stay, while a structured carry-on case can be more useful for a long weekend or business trip.
Hard-shell cabin bags are useful if you want a more protective outer case, particularly for toiletries, tech accessories or neatly folded outfits. Soft-sided cabin bags can be easier to squeeze into tight spaces and often include quick-access compartments.
Inside, compare zipped dividers, compression straps, mesh pockets and separate sections for shoes or laundry. A well-organised cabin bag can make a small packing space feel much easier to manage.
If you move mostly through airports, a four-wheel spinner can glide easily beside you. If your trips involve pavements, train platforms or cobbled streets, a two-wheel cabin bag may feel more controlled.
Check for a comfortable top or side handle as well as the telescopic handle. These details matter when lifting the bag into an overhead locker, onto a luggage rack or into a car boot.
For work travel, look for cabin bags with a laptop section, document pocket or easy-access front compartment. For leisure breaks, internal packing space and clothing compression may be more important.
If you regularly travel with more than hand luggage, it can also help to compare cabin bags alongside wider luggage options, so your carry-on complements rather than duplicates your larger cases.
Before deciding, compare the empty weight, lock type, zip quality, handle height and whether the cabin bag is expandable. Expansion can be handy, but only if the final size still works for your journey.
Colour and finish are worth considering too. A distinctive cabin bag can be easier to spot, while darker finishes may be more forgiving during frequent travel.
