Tutti BambiniTravel Cots: Your essential buying guide
Focus on age suitability, assembled size, folded size, weight, mattress firmness, ease of folding and whether a carry bag is included. If you will use it often, a quick set-up mechanism and durable frame are especially useful.
Some travel cots are suitable from birth, while others are designed for older babies who can sleep on the lower base. Always check the manufacturer’s age, weight and usage guidance, especially if the model includes a raised bassinet insert.
Most travel cots include a basic mattress or padded base, but thickness and comfort can vary. Only use mattresses and accessories that are compatible with the specific travel cot model to help maintain a safe, secure fit.
A lightweight travel cot is easier to carry and pack, which helps for holidays or frequent overnight stays. A heavier model may feel more stable or offer extra features, so it depends on whether portability or everyday practicality matters more to you.
Storage size varies widely. Check the folded dimensions as well as the carry-bag shape, because some cots fold into a long rectangular case while others pack down more compactly for car boots, cupboards or luggage.
A travel cot should be easy to move, simple to set up and suitable for your child’s stage. Comparing the key details before you buy helps you find a model that works for weekends away, nursery visits and occasional sleepovers.
Check both the sleeping area and the manufacturer’s age or weight guidance. A cot that is roomy enough for a toddler may be bulkier to carry, while a smaller newborn-friendly option may be easier to use in compact rooms.
If you are buying for a young baby, look for whether the travel cot includes or supports a raised bassinet level. This can make placing your baby down easier, but it should only be used within the stated limits.
If the cot will be moved often, compare the folded dimensions, packed weight and whether a carry bag is included. A model that fits neatly in the car boot or under a bed can be much more practical for regular travel.
Set-up style matters too. Some travel cots use a traditional frame-and-lock system, while others are designed for quicker assembly. Consider who will be putting it up and how often it will be used.
Travel cot mattresses are usually designed to be firm and supportive. Compare the base structure, padding and how securely the mattress sits inside the frame rather than choosing on softness alone.
If you plan to buy extra sheets or accessories, make sure they match the cot’s mattress size. A snug fit is important, and the safest approach is to follow the manufacturer’s guidance for bedding and compatible extras.
Some travel cots include features such as wheels, mesh sides, toy bars, changing attachments or side openings. These can be useful, but they may add weight or make the cot less compact when packed away.
For occasional trips, a simple lightweight cot may be enough. For frequent stays with relatives or longer holidays, extra convenience features can make daily use easier.
A travel cot is only one part of a practical away-from-home setup. Think about how it will sit alongside sleeping bags, blankets, changing essentials and feeding items so you do not carry more than you need.
You can also browse the wider baby care range if you are building a fuller travel checklist, but keep the travel cot choice centred on safe sleep, portability and ease of use.
