Edifier Surround Sound Speakers: Your essential buying guide
They are used to create a more enveloping audio setup, with sound coming from different directions rather than only from the front. That can make films, sport and games feel more realistic and engaging.
Start by thinking about your room size, where you can place speakers, and how many channels you want to use. It also helps to check how the speakers will work with the rest of your home cinema equipment.
Yes, they need to fit with the amplifier or AV receiver and the wider speaker setup you are building. Checking compatibility first helps you avoid choosing speakers that do not suit your existing kit.
They are most often used for home cinema, but many people also use them to improve gaming and general entertainment audio. Their value is in adding direction and depth to the sound field.
Look at available floor or wall space, cable routing, and how close the seating area is to the speaker positions. These practical details often matter just as much as the speaker style itself.
If you are exploring surround sound speakers, the key is to match the speaker type to your room, your system and the effect you want to create. A thoughtful setup can make films and games feel far more immersive without needing to overcomplicate the layout.
The best surround speaker choice often depends on where the seating sits and where speakers can be positioned. Small or awkward rooms may call for a simpler arrangement, while larger spaces may give you more flexibility with placement.
Think about whether speakers will sit on stands, shelves or wall brackets, and whether cables can be run neatly. A practical layout is usually easier to enjoy day to day than a setup that looks ideal on paper but is awkward in the room.
Surround speakers should work as part of a wider home cinema system rather than as standalone items. It is worth checking how they fit with your AV receiver or amplifier, especially if you are building a multi-speaker arrangement.
If you are adding to an existing setup, aim for consistency in how the speakers integrate with the rest of the system. That helps you focus on the listening experience instead of dealing with mismatched components.
Some shoppers are replacing a single part of a system, while others are planning a complete surround arrangement. Knowing your end goal makes it easier to compare speaker types and avoid buying more or less than you need.
If you expect to upgrade later, it can help to choose a setup that leaves room for future changes. That way, your purchase can fit into a longer-term plan rather than being a short-term fix.
Good surround speakers should suit how you actually use your room. If the space doubles as a living room, neat placement and easy integration may matter as much as the sound itself.
For dedicated cinema spaces, you may have more freedom to focus on immersion and speaker positioning. In either case, it pays to compare options with the room and listening habits in mind rather than judging by category name alone.
