Ray-Ban Sunglasses: Your essential buying guide
Start with the look you like, then consider balance and comfort. Angular frames can add definition, rounder styles can soften sharper features, and oversized or wraparound shapes offer more coverage. If you are unsure, compare a few familiar shapes such as aviator, wayfarer, round and cat-eye.
Polarised lenses can help reduce glare from reflective surfaces such as roads, water and glass, which makes them a popular choice for driving, holidays and bright outdoor settings. They are not essential for everyone, so compare them with standard tinted lenses based on when you will wear them most.
Lens colour affects both style and how the view feels. Grey and smoke tones are versatile, brown and amber shades can feel warmer, green lenses offer a classic look, and mirrored or coloured lenses make more of a statement. Always check the product details for the lens features you need.
Sunglasses should sit comfortably on the bridge of your nose without pinching, slipping or resting heavily on your cheeks. The arms should feel secure without pressing too tightly at the temples, and the lenses should provide enough coverage for your preferred use.
Yes. Comparing designer, high street and sport-focused sunglasses side by side can help you weigh up frame material, lens type, branding, shape and overall style before choosing the pair that suits your budget and wardrobe.
Sunglasses are both a practical accessory and a style choice, so it helps to compare more than just the colour of the frame. Think about where you will wear them, how much coverage you prefer and which details matter most for your face shape, wardrobe and daily routine.
Aviator sunglasses have a timeless, relaxed feel, while wayfarer-style frames are easy to wear with casual and smarter outfits. Round frames can feel retro or minimal, cat-eye styles add a more defined silhouette, and oversized sunglasses make a stronger fashion statement.
If you want one versatile pair, look for a frame shape and colour that works with most of your clothing. Black, tortoiseshell, brown, metal and neutral frames are usually easier to pair with different outfits than very bold colours.
Standard tinted lenses are suitable for everyday sunny conditions, while polarised lenses are often chosen to help manage glare. Mirrored lenses create a bolder look, and gradient lenses can be useful if you prefer a lighter tint towards the bottom of the lens.
Check the product information for lens features rather than relying on appearance alone. Two pairs may look similar but differ in tint depth, polarisation, finish or intended use.
Frame width, bridge shape and arm length all affect how sunglasses feel. A pair that looks good but slips, pinches or feels heavy is less likely to become your everyday choice.
For active days, consider secure-fitting frames with good coverage. For city wear or holidays, you might prefer lighter frames, slimmer profiles or styles that are easy to pair with different outfits.
For driving, many shoppers look for comfortable frames with good side coverage and lenses that reduce brightness. For beach, travel or festival outfits, style, colour and coverage may matter more.
If you need sunglasses for sport or long periods outdoors, compare wraparound shapes, lightweight materials and secure nose or temple details. For everyday fashion use, focus on a flattering frame shape and a lens colour you will enjoy wearing often.
ShopSmarty is designed to help you discover and compare sunglasses across available options, making it easier to filter by the features that matter to you. Compare frame style, lens finish, colour and brand direction before deciding which pair best fits your needs.
It is worth shortlisting more than one pair if you are choosing between statement sunglasses and a more neutral everyday design. That way, you can compare the details clearly before making a decision.
