Elements Suitcases: Your essential buying guide
Start with how long you are away and how much you usually pack. A smaller case may suit short breaks, while a larger suitcase is better for longer trips or shared packing. If you travel with hand luggage only, check the case measurements carefully before choosing.
A hard shell suitcase is often chosen for a more rigid outer case and a neater shape, while a soft shell suitcase can offer a more flexible feel and external pockets. Think about whether protection, flexibility or easy-access storage matters more to you.
Many shoppers compare two-wheel and four-wheel suitcases. Four-wheel cases are often easier to move through airports and stations, while two-wheel options can feel steadier on uneven surfaces. The best choice depends on where and how you travel most often.
Look for internal straps, zipped compartments and separate sections for shoes, toiletries or clean clothes. These features can make packing simpler and help items stay in place during the journey.
Suitcase sets can be useful if you want matching sizes for different types of trip. They may suit households that travel often or shoppers who want one smaller case and one larger case ready for different journeys.
When comparing suitcases, focus on the details that affect everyday travel: size, weight, shell type, wheels, handles and how easy the case is to organise. The best choice is the one that fits your packing habits and the way you move through your journey. It can also help to compare suitcases alongside nearby luggage options such as cabin bags, luggage scales and packing cubes, especially if you want a more efficient setup for short breaks or longer holidays.
Think about whether you need a cabin-friendly case, a medium hold suitcase or a larger option for longer stays. The right size should fit both your packing style and the type of travel you do most often.
A well-sized suitcase is easier to lift, store and manage, so avoid buying bigger than you need unless you regularly travel with extra items.
Hard shell suitcases can appeal if you want a more structured outer casing, while soft shell designs may suit shoppers who like exterior pockets and a bit more give when packing.
If you carry fragile items or want a tidy packing shape, the outer construction is worth close attention. If quick-access storage matters, look for practical pockets and simple zip layouts.
Wheel design can make a noticeable difference to comfort in airports, train stations and car parks. Some shoppers prefer the feel of a suitcase that rolls easily beside them, while others want a case that feels stable when pulled over different surfaces.
Handle height, grip comfort and how smoothly the trolley extends are all worth checking, particularly if you often carry your case for longer distances.
Internal straps, dividers and zipped sections can help keep clothing neat and prevent movement during travel. If you pack shoes, accessories or gifts, extra compartments can make the suitcase more useful from trip to trip.
For more organised packing, some shoppers also use packing cubes, which can help separate outfits and make it easier to find things quickly.
If you are choosing a suitcase as part of a wider luggage setup, it may be useful to compare it with luggage accessories or a full luggage category to see what best fits your travel habits.
Shoppers planning family trips or frequent holidays may also find it helpful to compare suitcase sets, while those who travel with children may want to look at children's luggage for smaller, more suitable options.
