Victor Squash: Your essential buying guide
Focus on the items that affect play most: the racket and the ball. For rackets, compare weight, balance, head size, string pattern and grip size. For balls, compare dot colour, bounce level and suitability for beginner, intermediate or experienced players.
Often, yes. Beginners usually benefit from a livelier ball with more bounce because it keeps rallies going for longer. More experienced players commonly use slower, lower-bounce balls that require better timing, control and court movement.
Racket weight can change how the racket feels through the swing. Lighter rackets may feel faster and easier to manoeuvre, while slightly heavier rackets can feel more stable. The best choice depends on your strength, technique and preference for control or power.
Yes, squash balls lose performance as they wear. If a ball looks shiny, feels less responsive, or no longer bounces consistently after warming up, it may be time to replace it. Regular players often keep spare balls in their kit bag.
It can be. A suitable racket helps with swing comfort and shot control, while the right ball affects rally length and pace. Comparing both together can help you build a more balanced squash setup for your playing level.
Squash kit is compact, but the right choices make a noticeable difference on court. Start with how often you play, your current ability and whether you want more control, power, speed or easier rallies.
A squash racket should feel comfortable through quick swings, volleys and defensive shots. Compare weight, balance and head size to find a model that suits your playing style rather than choosing on looks alone.
A head-light racket may feel easier to move quickly, while a more head-heavy feel can help some players generate power. If you are still developing technique, prioritise comfort and control so the racket feels natural over a full session.
Squash balls are not all the same. The dot marking indicates speed and bounce, which affects how long rallies last and how much effort is needed to keep the ball warm and active.
Newer players usually get more enjoyment from a ball with extra bounce, while experienced players may prefer a slower competition-style ball. If you play in colder courts, a slightly livelier ball can also make casual games more manageable.
Occasional players may only need a dependable racket and a small supply of suitable balls. Regular club players may want to compare more carefully for durability, grip comfort and replacement balls for training or match nights.
If you are returning to squash after a break, consider whether your old racket still feels comfortable and whether your balls have lost bounce. Small updates can make sessions feel more consistent.
Power-focused players may look for a racket that helps generate pace, while control-focused players may prefer a feel that supports touch shots, drops and accurate drives. Comfort matters too, especially during longer rallies or frequent sessions.
Do not overlook the grip. A secure, comfortable grip can improve confidence on fast exchanges and reduce the need to over-squeeze the handle.
