Vango Sleeping Bags: Your essential buying guide
Choose the tog based on the room temperature and what your baby will wear underneath. Lower tog sleeping bags are better for warmer rooms or summer, while higher tog options are intended for cooler rooms. Always check the individual product guidance, as recommendations can vary by brand.
A baby sleeping bag should fit securely around the neck and armholes so your baby cannot slip down inside it, while still leaving room for their legs to move comfortably. Use the age, height and weight guidance provided for each product rather than choosing a larger size to grow into.
Some sleeping bags are designed for newborns, but you should check the minimum weight and size guidance carefully. For very young babies, the fit around the neck and armholes is especially important, and you should follow safe sleep advice from the product information and trusted health guidance.
Zip fastenings are popular because they are quick for night-time changes, while shoulder poppers can make it easier to get the bag on and off. Look for covered zips, smooth seams and fastenings that feel secure but practical for your routine.
Many households find it useful to have more than one sleeping bag so there is a spare when one is being washed. You may also want different tog ratings for warmer and cooler conditions, depending on your home and the time of year.
Baby sleeping bags can make bedtime simpler by keeping your little one covered without using loose bedding. When comparing options, focus on fit, tog rating, fabric and everyday practicality.
Tog rating tells you how warm a sleeping bag is designed to be. Lightweight bags are useful for warmer rooms, while thicker options suit cooler nights.
Room temperature, baby sleepwear and the fabric of the bag all affect comfort, so compare the product guidance before choosing.
Sleeping bags are usually listed by age range, but the safest fit depends on your baby’s size as well as their age. Check the stated height or weight range where available.
The neck opening should not be loose enough for your baby to slip inside the bag, and the armholes should sit securely without restricting movement.
Cotton, jersey and muslin-style fabrics are common choices for baby sleeping bags, each with a different feel and level of warmth.
Look at the care instructions if you need something easy to wash and quick to get back into the bedtime routine.
Two-way zips, side zips and shoulder poppers can make a difference when changing nappies at night. A practical fastening can help reduce disruption during sleepy changes.
Also check for zip guards, covered fastenings and smooth seams to help keep the bag comfortable.
Sleeping bags sit alongside other baby care sleep items such as blankets, comforters and nests, but they are a distinct choice for covered sleep without loose bedding.
If you are planning a wider nursery or bedtime setup, browsing the broader baby care range can help you compare complementary essentials.
