Flymo Robot Lawn Mowers: Your essential buying guide
Robot Lawn Mowers are available for different lawn areas, from compact gardens to larger lawns. Check the stated working area or maximum coverage and match it to your lawn size, allowing extra capacity if the garden is split into zones or has a complex shape.
Many models use a perimeter or boundary wire to define where the mower should cut, while some newer models use camera, GPS or other navigation features. If you want a simpler installation, look closely at the navigation type and whether perimeter wire is required.
Some Robot Lawn Mowers are designed to manage inclines, but capability varies by model. Check the maximum incline rating and consider whether your lawn has banks, dips, narrow passages or obstacles that may require stronger navigation and traction.
Useful features can include app control, timer settings, GPS, rain sensors, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, displays and voice assistant compatibility. App control and scheduling are especially helpful if you want to adjust mowing times without using controls on the mower itself.
Robot Lawn Mowers commonly use safety systems such as obstacle sensors and blade-stop functions if the mower is lifted. Always compare the safety features listed for each model and keep the lawn clear of toys, loose branches and other items before mowing.
Battery life affects how much grass the mower can cut before returning to charge, while charging time affects how quickly it can resume work. Larger lawns usually benefit from longer run times, efficient charging and automatic return-to-base behaviour where available.
Robot Lawn Mowers are designed to cut grass automatically, helping reduce the time spent on routine garden maintenance. The best choice depends on your lawn size, layout, slopes, preferred controls and the level of smart automation you want.
Start by comparing the mower’s working area with the size of your lawn. A small, straightforward garden may only need a compact robot mower with a modest cutting width, while a larger lawn may require a model rated for a greater area.
If your garden has several sections, narrow routes, trees, beds or garden furniture, navigation becomes more important. Look for features such as GPS, camera-based guidance, obstacle detection or clear boundary management where listed.
Incline capability matters if your lawn is not flat. Compare the maximum slope rating with the steepest parts of your garden so the mower can travel safely and continue cutting consistently.
Cutting width affects how much grass is cut in each pass. Many compact robotic mowers use narrower cutting widths, which can suit smaller lawns and tighter spaces. Also review the minimum and maximum cutting height settings to make sure the finish suits your preferred grass length.
Some Robot Lawn Mowers work with a perimeter wire that marks the cutting area. This can be reliable once installed, but it does require set-up around lawn edges and no-go areas.
Other models may use smart navigation features such as GPS, cameras or advanced sensors. These can be helpful for more complex gardens, but you should still check whether the mower supports your garden layout and whether any accessories are needed.
Battery life and charging time influence how smoothly the mower keeps on top of the lawn. A model with a longer operating time may be more suitable for a bigger area, while quicker charging can reduce downtime between cutting sessions.
Timer settings and app control make it easier to set mowing routines around your household. Some mowers also include rain sensors, so they can respond to wet conditions rather than cutting when the lawn is unsuitable.
Connectivity options can include app control, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and voice assistant support. These features are useful if you want to start, pause or schedule mowing remotely, or check the mower’s status from your phone.
GPS and tracking features can add extra convenience on selected models. Displays and onboard controls are also worth considering if you prefer to adjust settings directly on the mower.
Look for safety features such as obstacle detection, lift detection and blade-stop systems. These help reduce risk during operation, but the mower should still be used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Routine care is usually simple: keep the mower clean, check the blades, clear grass build-up and make sure sensors are not blocked. Replacement blades and battery condition are also worth considering when comparing long-term ownership.
