TaylorMade Putters: Your essential buying guide
Many beginners prefer a mallet putter because the larger head can feel more stable and often offers clear alignment aids. A blade putter can still work well if you like a compact look and have a more consistent stroke, so it is worth comparing both shapes before choosing.
Blade putters tend to suit golfers who like a traditional shape and a lighter, more responsive feel. Mallet putters usually provide a bigger footprint, extra stability and more visual alignment help, which can be useful if you want added forgiveness on off-centre strikes.
Putter length affects posture, eye position and how naturally your arms hang. Many adult putters are around the mid-30-inch range, but the right choice depends on your height, stance and setup. If the putter feels too long or too short, it can make alignment and distance control harder.
Toe hang describes how much the toe of the putter points down when balanced. Putters with more toe hang often suit an arcing stroke, while face-balanced putters are commonly chosen by golfers with a straighter back-and-through motion.
Yes. Thicker grips can help reduce wrist action and encourage a steadier stroke, while slimmer grips may give more feel in the hands. Grip shape, texture and weight can all change how the putter feels during short and long putts.
A putter is a highly personal club, so the best choice is usually the one that sits squarely behind the ball, matches your stroke and gives you reliable distance control. Use the points below to compare putters with confidence.
Blade putters offer a compact, classic look and are often favoured by golfers who like simple shaping and more feedback at impact.
Mallet putters have a larger head, which can provide a more stable feel and extra alignment features. They are useful to compare if you want help setting the face square at address.
If your putting stroke naturally opens and closes on an arc, a putter with toe hang may feel more comfortable through impact.
If your stroke is closer to straight back and straight through, a face-balanced putter may help the face return squarely to the ball.
The right putter length should let you stand comfortably with your eyes close to the target line and your arms hanging naturally.
A poor fit can encourage compensations in your posture or stroke, so compare lengths carefully if you are taller, shorter or prefer a more upright or crouched putting stance.
Some putters use a milled face for a firmer, more direct feel, while insert faces can feel softer. The right option depends on the feedback you prefer and the golf balls you typically use.
Alignment lines, contrasting colours and head geometry can all make it easier to aim. Choose a design that helps you set up consistently without feeling distracting.
A putter is only one part of your golf bag, but it plays a major role in scoring. If you are reviewing your wider equipment, it can help to compare putters alongside the rest of your golf gear while keeping your putting needs as the priority.
