BritaPitchers: Your essential buying guide
For everyday table use, a medium pitcher is usually practical because it is easy to lift when full. For parties, barbecues or family meals, compare larger capacities so you can serve more drinks between refills. Check both the stated capacity and the overall dimensions to make sure it fits your fridge, cupboard or dining table.
Glass pitchers are popular for serving drinks neatly and showing the contents, while plastic pitchers are lighter and often more suitable for outdoor use. Ceramic pitchers can suit a more decorative table setting, and stainless steel options are useful if you want a more robust, modern look. Compare weight, care instructions and whether the material suits hot, cold or acidic drinks.
A lid is useful if you plan to keep drinks in the fridge, serve outdoors or protect contents between pours. Open-top pitchers can be simpler for quick table service and are often easier to refill. If choosing a lidded pitcher, check whether the lid pours smoothly and can be removed easily for cleaning.
Look for a comfortable handle, a balanced shape and a defined spout. A wide base can help stability, while a narrower neck may reduce splashing. If you will serve heavier drinks or large quantities, compare handle size and grip carefully, as a full pitcher can become awkward to manage.
Some pitchers are dishwasher safe, but it depends on the material, finish, lid and any decorative details. Always check the product care information before buying. If the pitcher has a narrow neck or fitted lid, also consider whether it will be easy to clean by hand.
Pitchers are useful for serving drinks neatly at the table, keeping refreshments ready in the fridge and presenting homemade juices, infused water or mixed drinks. Comparing the right capacity, material and pouring design will help you find one that suits how you serve.
Think about how many people you normally serve and how often you are happy to refill. A smaller pitcher can be easier to lift, store and wash, while a larger one is better for gatherings or long meals.
If you want to chill drinks in advance, compare the height and width as well as the litre capacity. Some tall pitchers may not fit easily in a fridge door or under a low shelf.
Glass is a classic choice for water, juice and table drinks because it looks clean and lets you see what is inside. Plastic is lighter and practical where breakage is a concern, such as garden dining or family use.
Ceramic pitchers can double as decorative tableware, while stainless steel designs can feel sturdy and contemporary. Check whether the material is suitable for the drinks you plan to serve, especially if you use citrus, ice or hot liquids.
A good pitcher should feel controlled when full. Compare handle shape, grip space and the angle of the spout, as these details affect how smoothly it pours.
If you often serve children, guests or large meals, a stable base and drip-resistant spout can make a noticeable difference. A lightweight pitcher may be easier to pass around the table, but it should still feel steady.
Lidded pitchers are handy for storing drinks in the fridge or serving outside, helping to keep contents covered between pours. They are especially useful for infused water, iced tea and chilled juices.
Open pitchers are simple, quick to refill and often easier to clean. If choosing a lid, compare whether it fits securely, whether it pours without removing it and whether any filter or strainer section is included.
If you are building a coordinated serving setup, consider how the pitcher will sit alongside glasses, trays, bowls and other tableware. Shape, colour and finish can all affect how it looks on the table.
For broader serving and preparation items, it can be useful to compare nearby kitchen accessories alongside your pitcher so your choices work well together.
