Cubot Mobile Phones: Your essential buying guide
Start with how you use your phone most. If you stream, browse and message, look for a comfortable screen size, reliable battery life and enough storage for apps and photos. If photography, gaming or work is important, compare camera features, processor performance, display quality and charging options.
Buying outright can suit shoppers who want flexibility over their SIM plan or prefer not to commit to a handset contract. A monthly contract may spread the cost and bundle calls, texts and data. Compare the total cost, contract length, data allowance and upgrade flexibility before deciding.
Light users who mainly browse, message and use a few apps may manage with lower storage, while people who take lots of photos, record video, download games or keep media offline should consider more capacity. Check whether the phone supports expandable storage, as many modern models do not.
Useful features to compare include operating system, screen size and resolution, camera lenses, battery capacity, charging type, storage, water resistance rating, biometric security, 5G support and software update expectations. Prioritise the features you will use regularly rather than paying for extras you do not need.
Many shoppers add essentials such as a case, screen protector, charger, cable, power bank, headphones or car mount. Check what is included with the phone and whether it uses USB-C, Lightning or another connection before choosing accessories.
Choosing a mobile phone is easier when you compare the handset, plan options and accessories together. Use this guide to narrow your choices by how you use your phone, how you want to pay and which add-ons may be useful from day one.
A mobile phone can be bought as a handset or chosen with a monthly contract. Buying the handset separately may give you more freedom to pick a SIM-only deal, switch networks or keep your existing plan.
Monthly contracts can make sense if you want the phone and airtime bundled together. Compare the upfront cost, monthly cost, data allowance, contract length and any upgrade terms so you understand the overall commitment.
For social media, video calls and streaming, screen quality, speaker performance and battery life are useful comparison points. If you carry your phone all day, also consider weight, size and whether it is comfortable to use one-handed.
For photos and video, compare main, ultra-wide and telephoto camera options, along with low-light performance features and video recording settings. For gaming or multitasking, look at performance, refresh rate and storage capacity.
If you want faster mobile data where available, look for 5G support and make sure the phone is compatible with your chosen UK network. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC for contactless payments and dual SIM or eSIM support may also be worth comparing.
Travellers and anyone managing work and personal numbers may find dual SIM features useful. Always check the exact SIM type and network compatibility before committing.
The choice between iOS and Android often comes down to familiarity, app preferences and the devices you already use. Consider how easily the phone will connect with your smartwatch, laptop, tablet, earbuds or cloud storage.
Security features such as fingerprint recognition, face unlock and regular software updates can also influence the experience. Look for a phone that feels straightforward to use, not just one with the longest specification list.
A new phone is easier to look after when you choose suitable accessories early. Cases and screen protectors help guard against everyday knocks, while the right charger, cable or power bank can make charging more convenient.
Before buying extras, check the phone’s connector type, wireless charging support and whether a charger is included. This helps avoid mismatched accessories and unnecessary purchases.
