Razer Laptops: Your essential buying guide

What laptop specification is best for everyday use?

For browsing, emails, video calls, streaming and document work, look for a modern processor, at least 8GB of RAM and SSD storage. A 13 to 15-inch screen is a practical size for most users, while good battery life matters if you plan to use it away from a desk.

How much RAM do I need in a laptop?

8GB of RAM is suitable for everyday tasks and light multitasking. Choose 16GB if you regularly keep lots of tabs open, use creative software, work with larger files or want a laptop that feels more capable over time. Specialist workloads may need more.

Should I choose a laptop with SSD storage?

Yes, SSD storage is strongly worth considering because it helps laptops start up faster, open apps more quickly and feel more responsive. Check the capacity as well as the storage type: 256GB may suit basic use, while 512GB or more is better for photos, videos, games and larger files.

What screen size should I choose for a laptop?

A 13 or 14-inch laptop is easier to carry and suits commuting, lectures and flexible working. A 15 or 16-inch model gives more screen space for spreadsheets, creative work and entertainment. Larger screens can be more comfortable at home but usually make the laptop heavier.

What should I check before buying a laptop deal?

Check the processor generation, RAM, storage, screen resolution, ports, battery claims, weight and operating system. Also consider whether the keyboard, webcam and connectivity suit your routine, especially if you use the laptop for work, study or regular video calls.

How to choose a laptop

Laptops vary widely in size, power and portability, so the best choice depends on where you use it and what you use it for. Comparing the core specifications helps you avoid paying for features you do not need while still getting enough performance for your tasks.

Match the laptop to your main use

For everyday browsing, streaming, emails and office tasks, a well-balanced laptop with a modern processor, SSD storage and 8GB of RAM is usually enough.

For creative work, coding, heavier multitasking or gaming, look for stronger processors, more RAM and, where needed, dedicated graphics. Students and commuters may prefer a lighter model with reliable battery life.

Compare performance carefully

Processor names can be confusing, so compare the processor family, generation and intended use rather than relying on the headline name alone. Entry-level chips suit simple tasks, while higher-performance processors are better for demanding software.

RAM affects how smoothly a laptop handles multiple apps at once. If you often use browser tabs, video calls and documents together, 16GB can be a worthwhile step up from 8GB.

Think about storage and files

SSD storage makes a laptop feel faster than older hard drive storage and is now a key feature to look for. Capacity matters too, especially if you keep photos, videos, games or project files on the device.

If you mainly use cloud storage, a smaller SSD may be manageable. If you want plenty of local space, compare models with 512GB or 1TB storage.

Choose the right screen and size

Smaller laptops are easier to carry, while larger screens are more comfortable for long sessions and split-screen work. Weight, keyboard size and battery life often change with screen size, so compare the full design rather than screen size alone.

Look at resolution, brightness and panel quality if you watch films, edit images or work for long periods. A sharper, clearer display can make everyday use more comfortable.

Check ports, connectivity and operating system

Before choosing a laptop, check it has the ports you need for monitors, chargers, storage drives, headphones and accessories. USB-C, HDMI and card readers can be important depending on your setup.

Also compare the operating system and software compatibility. Make sure the laptop supports the apps, services and peripherals you rely on for work, study or home use.
