TEMPUR King Size Mattresses: Your essential buying guide
A standard UK king size mattress is usually 150 x 200 cm. Always check the product dimensions against your bed frame, as European king sizes and some branded frames can differ.
A king size mattress gives two sleepers more width and length than a standard double, which can help if you feel cramped or are easily disturbed by movement. A double may still suit smaller bedrooms where floor space is limited.
Firmness depends on sleep position, body weight and comfort preference. Side sleepers often look for cushioning around the shoulders and hips, while back and front sleepers may prefer more support to keep the body aligned.
Pocket sprung, memory foam, hybrid, latex and open coil designs can all work well in king size. Compare the support system, comfort layers, depth, firmness and whether the mattress helps reduce partner movement.
Measure stair turns, doorways and landing space before buying, especially for deeper or non-rolled mattresses. Rolled or vacuum-packed king size mattresses can be easier to manoeuvre, but you should still check the stated packaging dimensions where available.
A king size mattress can make a bedroom feel more comfortable and generous, but the best choice depends on your bed frame, sleep style and preferred feel. Use ShopSmarty to compare options and spot sales across suitable king size mattresses.
Start by confirming that you need a UK king size mattress, usually 150 x 200 cm. If your bed frame was bought abroad or described as European sized, the dimensions may not match a standard UK king.
Also consider mattress depth. A deeper mattress can change the height of your bed and may affect fitted sheet compatibility, bedside table reach and how easy it is to get in and out of bed.
King size mattresses come in a range of constructions, including pocket sprung, memory foam, hybrid, latex and traditional sprung designs. Pocket springs can offer more independent support, while foam layers often provide a more contouring feel.
If two people share the mattress, look closely at motion isolation, edge support and firmness. These details can matter more on a larger mattress because each sleeper may have different comfort needs.
Side sleepers commonly prefer a mattress with enough give to cushion pressure points. Back sleepers often look for balanced support, while front sleepers may need a firmer feel to help prevent the hips from sinking too far.
If you and a partner prefer different firmness levels, compare medium or medium-firm king size mattresses, as these can offer a practical middle ground for shared beds.
A king size mattress offers more sleeping room, but it also needs enough floor space around the bed. Check that drawers, wardrobes and doors can still open comfortably once the bed is in place.
For compact bedrooms, measure the full footprint of the bed frame rather than the mattress alone, as divans, ottoman bases and statement frames can add extra width or length.
When browsing king size mattress deals, compare like for like: size, construction, firmness, depth, materials and included features. A lower price may not be the best value if the support or dimensions do not suit your bed.
ShopSmarty helps you review sale options in one place, making it easier to narrow down king size mattresses that fit your room, comfort preferences and budget.
