AdidasJackets & Sweaters: Your essential buying guide
Start with when you will wear it. Lightweight track jackets and sweatshirts work well for layering, while warmer jackets, fleece-lined styles and heavier sweaters are better for colder match days. Then compare fit, fabric, fastening style, pockets, hood options and how prominently the team crest or colours are shown.
Yes, many designs are made to be worn casually as well as at fixtures. If you want something subtle, look for smaller crests, tonal colours or simple zip-up styles. For a bolder supporter look, choose jackets or sweaters with larger graphics, contrast panels or classic team colour blocking.
Check the size guide for the brand or team range and think about layering. A closer fit may suit wearing over a T-shirt or shirt, while a roomier fit can be more comfortable over a hoodie or base layer. If you are between sizes, consider the cut of the garment and whether you prefer a relaxed or fitted look.
A fan jacket usually has a zip or press-stud fastening and is designed as an outer or mid layer. A hoodie has a hood and often a front pocket, while a sweatshirt is usually pullover-style with a soft jersey feel. A sweater can refer to warmer knitted or fleece-style layers, depending on the product design.
For colder conditions, compare insulation, fleece lining, ribbed cuffs and higher collars. For changeable weather, look for hoods, full-zip fastenings and practical pockets. If you need water resistance, check the product details carefully, as not every fan jacket is designed for rain protection.
Sports fan jackets and sweaters are about more than showing your colours. The right choice depends on the season, how you layer your outfit and whether you want a bold stadium look or a versatile everyday piece.
For mild days, a sweatshirt, crew neck sweater or lightweight zip jacket can add warmth without feeling bulky. These are useful when you want something easy to wear over a team shirt or T-shirt.
For colder fixtures, compare heavier jackets, padded styles, fleece-backed sweatshirts and thicker hoodies. Details such as ribbed hems, lined hoods and high collars can make a noticeable difference when standing or sitting outside for long periods.
A slim or regular fit can look neater for everyday wear, while a relaxed fit gives more room for layering on match days. If you plan to wear a football kit, sports team shirt or thermal layer underneath, allow space across the shoulders, chest and sleeves.
Check whether the jacket or sweater is designed for adults, juniors or unisex sizing. Sleeve length, body length and shoulder width can vary between ranges, so the size guide is more useful than relying on your usual size alone.
Some supporters prefer full team colours, large back prints or retro-inspired panels. Others may want a more understated jacket or sweater with a small crest that works with jeans, joggers or casual outerwear.
Look closely at images and product descriptions to see whether logos are embroidered, printed, woven or appliquéd. This can affect the overall finish and how prominent the supporter design appears.
Materials matter for comfort. Cotton-rich sweatshirts can feel soft and breathable, polyester track jackets often feel lighter and smoother, and fleece-backed designs can add extra warmth.
Useful features include zipped pockets, adjustable hoods, full-length zips, elasticated cuffs and easy-care fabrics. If you are buying for regular match days, also check the care instructions so the garment is simple to keep fresh.
A fan jacket or sweater can sit over a shirt, T-shirt or hoodie, or pair with supporter trousers, shorts, caps and beanies depending on the weather. Keeping colours coordinated can make the outfit feel more intentional without needing every item from the same range.
If you are comparing options as a gift, a versatile sweater or zip jacket is often easier to wear than a more specialised match shirt, especially when you are unsure how bold the recipient likes their fan apparel to be.
