Max Factor Nailfinity X-Press Gel Polish #215 Standing Ovation 12ml
Max FactorGel Polishes: Your essential buying guide
Check the shade, finish, curing requirements and whether the polish is designed for LED, UV or dual curing. It is also worth considering bottle size, opacity, removal method and whether the formula is intended for use with a matching base coat and top coat.
Most true gel polishes need curing under a compatible UV or LED nail lamp to set properly. Always check the product instructions, as curing time and lamp type can vary by formula.
Gel polish is cured under a lamp and is generally chosen for a glossy, more durable finish. Regular nail polish air-dries and is usually easier to remove, but it may not offer the same chip-resistant wear as a properly applied gel manicure.
For best results, use gel-compatible base and top coats, ideally from a system that states it works with your chosen polish. Mixing incompatible products can affect curing, shine, wear time or removal.
Gel polish is usually removed by gently filing the shine from the top layer, then soaking with a suitable remover as directed. Avoid picking or peeling, as this can damage the natural nail surface.
Gel polish can vary by curing method, finish, colour payoff and how it fits into your wider nail routine. Use these tips to compare options more confidently before you buy.
Most gel polishes are formulated to cure under LED, UV or dual LED/UV lamps. Before choosing a shade, check that the polish is suitable for the lamp you already use or plan to buy.
Curing time can differ between formulas, so follow the instructions for each polish rather than assuming one setting works for every bottle.
Gel polishes are available in crème, sheer, shimmer, glitter, metallic and cat-eye style effects. A sheer pink or nude can work well for subtle manicures, while opaque colours and glitter finishes create a stronger statement.
If you want a salon-style shine, consider how the polish will look with your chosen gel top coat, as the top layer often affects the final gloss and durability.
Some gel polishes give full coverage in fewer coats, while sheer or jelly-style shades are designed to be built up gradually. Product descriptions can help indicate whether a polish is opaque, translucent or best used as a layering shade.
Thinner coats usually cure more evenly than thick layers, so factor in how many coats you may need to achieve your preferred look.
Gel polish typically works best as part of a complete routine with nail preparation, a compatible base coat, colour coats and a gel top coat. Proper prep can help the polish adhere evenly and reduce lifting.
If you are building out your nail kit, comparing broader nail products can help you match gel colours with the tools and finishing products needed for a neater manicure.
Removal is an important part of choosing gel polish. Some formulas are soak-off gels, while others may need a more specific removal process, so check the instructions before applying.
If your nails are weak, peeling or sensitive, avoid picking gel polish off and give nails time to recover between applications where needed.
