Samuel Alexander Large Wooden Outdoor Garden Patio Log Store Shed 123cm x 115cm
Samuel AlexanderFirewood Sheds: Your essential buying guide
Choose the size based on how often you use your wood burner, fireplace, fire pit or outdoor stove. Occasional users may only need a compact log store, while households storing fuel through colder months should compare wider or deeper firewood sheds with enough height for neat stacking and airflow.
Open or slatted sides are useful because they allow air to circulate around the logs. A firewood shed should protect wood from direct rain while still letting moisture escape, so avoid designs that seal logs in like a fully enclosed cupboard.
Yes, a raised base helps keep logs off damp ground and allows air to move underneath the stack. It is especially useful on patios, lawns and uneven garden areas where water may sit after rain.
Timber firewood sheds are popular because they suit garden settings and usually provide good natural ventilation. Compare the timber treatment, roof covering, fixings and maintenance needs before choosing, as these details affect how well the shed suits your space.
Place it somewhere convenient to reach from the house or seating area, but with enough exposure for airflow. A level, well-drained spot against a wall, fence or sheltered boundary can work well, provided the front remains easy to access.
A firewood shed is designed for one job: storing logs in a tidy, accessible stack while helping them stay aired and protected. Comparing the right details before you buy makes it easier to find a log store that suits your garden layout, fuel habits and available space.
Start by thinking about your typical log use rather than choosing purely by footprint. If you only light a fire pit occasionally, a smaller firewood shed may be enough. If you heat a room regularly with a stove, you may prefer a larger model that can hold a more substantial supply.
Check the usable internal space, not just the outside measurements. The best option should let you stack logs neatly without blocking airflow or making the top rows difficult to reach.
Firewood sheds usually work best when they combine a protective roof with open or slatted sides. The roof helps shield logs from direct rain, while the gaps allow air to pass through the stack.
A completely closed design can trap moisture around the logs, so compare how the sides, back and base are built. A raised floor and an overhanging roof are practical features to look for.
Measure the intended space carefully, including the height under fences, eaves, trees or wall-mounted items. Leave room at the front so you can load and unload logs without having to pull the shed out of position.
For exposed gardens, consider a sturdier structure with a stable base and a roof shape that sheds water away from the stored wood. For smaller patios or side returns, a narrow upright firewood shed may be easier to fit.
Many firewood sheds are made from timber, so it is worth checking whether the wood is treated and whether future maintenance is recommended. A suitable treatment can help the structure cope with outdoor conditions, but you should still follow the product care guidance.
Look at the roof material, joints and fixings as well as the frame. These details can make a firewood shed feel more practical day to day, especially if it will be loaded heavily or positioned in a busy garden area.
A firewood shed is more specific than a general garden storage unit. It is made for stacked logs, ventilation and quick access, rather than hiding away tools, bikes or outdoor cushions.
If you need broader outdoor storage as well as log storage, compare firewood sheds alongside other outbuildings so each item has the right type of space.
