Rimmel Eyebrow Pencils: Your essential buying guide
Choose a shade that sits close to your natural brow colour, usually slightly softer rather than darker for a natural look. If your brows are very dark, a deep brown can often look less harsh than black, while fair brows may suit taupe, blonde or soft brown tones.
A fine-tip eyebrow pencil is useful for drawing small, hair-like strokes and filling sparse areas with precision. An angled pencil has a broader edge, which can make it quicker to define the brow shape and shade larger areas.
Retractable eyebrow pencils are convenient because they do not need sharpening and are easy to keep in a makeup bag. Sharpenable pencils can offer a fresh point when sharpened, which some shoppers prefer for crisp lines and precise shaping.
A waxier eyebrow pencil can help grip brow hairs and create a more defined finish, while a powdery pencil often gives a softer, diffused effect. Your choice depends on whether you prefer structured brows or a more natural, blended look.
Useful features include a built-in spoolie for blending, a slim tip for detail work, a triangular or angled tip for faster filling, and a formula that suits your preferred finish. Also check the shade range and whether the pencil format fits how you apply your brows day to day.
Eyebrow pencils are a simple way to add definition, fill gaps and balance your brow shape. The best choice depends on your brow type, the finish you like and how much precision you want from your makeup routine.
For a natural brow, look for a pencil that can create light, feathery strokes and blends easily with a spoolie. This helps soften the edges and keeps the result from looking too drawn on.
For a more structured brow, an angled or firmer pencil can help outline the shape before filling in. Use lighter pressure at the front of the brow and build definition towards the arch and tail.
Ultra-fine eyebrow pencils are ideal for precision, especially if you want to mimic individual brow hairs or fill small sparse patches. They can take a little longer to apply but offer good control.
Angled and triangular pencils cover more area, making them useful for quick shaping and shading. They can also help create a cleaner lower brow line when used with a light hand.
A firmer pencil gives more control and is less likely to apply too much product at once. It is a good option if you prefer gradual build-up and a precise finish.
A softer pencil may feel easier to apply and can be useful for fuller shading, but it may need careful blending. If you like a soft-focus look, a powder-style finish can work well.
A built-in spoolie is helpful for brushing brows into place before application and blending colour afterwards. It also makes the pencil more convenient for touch-ups.
Retractable formats avoid the need for a sharpener, while traditional pencils may appeal if you prefer to control the point. Check the product format before you compare options so it suits your routine.
An eyebrow pencil can be used on its own for simple definition, or paired with other brow products if you want extra hold, softness or tint. Keep the pencil work light at first, then layer gradually until the brows look balanced.
When comparing within cosmetics, consider how the pencil will sit alongside the rest of your makeup, particularly base products and eye makeup. A shade and finish that suits your overall look will usually be easier to wear every day.
