Jonsbo Computer Cases: Your essential buying guide
Choose a case that supports your motherboard form factor and leaves enough room for your graphics card, CPU cooler, power supply and storage. Mini-ITX cases are compact, micro-ATX cases balance size and expansion, while ATX mid-towers and full-towers usually provide more space for larger builds.
Check the motherboard form factors listed for the case, such as Mini-ITX, micro-ATX, ATX or E-ATX. A case must explicitly support your board size, and larger cases often support several smaller form factors as well.
Good airflow helps move warm air away from components and brings cooler air into the case. Look at the number and position of fan mounts, mesh panels, venting and space for radiators if you are planning liquid cooling.
Compare the maximum GPU length supported by the case with the length of the graphics card you want to install. Also consider thickness, front-mounted fans or radiators, and whether the case layout leaves enough space around the card.
Tempered glass cases are popular for showing off a clean build and internal lighting, but they can be heavier and may need more regular cleaning. If cooling is your priority, also check the case’s ventilation and fan layout rather than choosing on appearance alone.
A computer case is more than an outer shell. It determines what components will fit, how easy the system is to build, how air moves through the PC and how the finished setup looks on or under your desk.
Begin by matching the case to your motherboard form factor. Mini-ITX cases are designed for compact builds, micro-ATX cases offer a smaller footprint with some expansion room, and ATX cases are a common choice for gaming, productivity and general custom PCs.
If you are considering a larger motherboard, such as E-ATX, check support carefully. Not every large-looking case supports every oversized board, and internal cable routing or drive mounts can affect usable space.
Look for the maximum supported graphics card length, CPU cooler height and power supply length. These measurements are especially important in compact cases or builds using large air coolers, long GPUs or extra front cooling.
Also think about how the case layout changes available space. Front radiators, thick fans, vertical GPU mounts and drive cages can reduce clearance, so compare the case specifications with your full parts list.
A good PC case should support a sensible path for air to enter and leave the system. Mesh front panels, top ventilation, rear exhaust positions and included fan locations can all influence cooling potential.
If you prefer air cooling, check fan mount sizes and CPU cooler height. If you are planning an AIO or custom liquid cooling setup, compare radiator support by position, thickness and compatibility with other installed parts.
Drive support still matters, especially if you use multiple SSDs or hard drives. Check the number of 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch mounts, and whether installing them affects airflow or space for other components.
Front-panel connectivity is also worth comparing. USB-C, USB-A, audio ports and power controls vary between cases, so choose a layout that matches how you use your PC day to day. Cable routing channels, tie points and space behind the motherboard tray can make the finished build tidier and easier to maintain.
Computer cases range from understated black boxes to showcase designs with tempered glass panels and lighting-friendly layouts. If the PC will sit on your desk, appearance, footprint and panel access may matter just as much as internal expansion.
For a quieter or more discreet system, look for designs that balance airflow with solid panels, dust filtration and practical access for cleaning. For a display build, prioritise internal visibility, cable hiding space and a layout that presents your components neatly.
