Blue Elephant Chest of Drawers: Your essential buying guide
Measure the floor space available, including room to open drawers fully and move around the bed. A narrow or tall chest can suit compact rooms, while a wider chest may work well where you have more wall space and want a larger top surface.
Think about what you plan to store. Three or four drawers may be enough for smaller clothing items or guest-room storage, while five, six or more drawers can help separate everyday clothes, knitwear, accessories and spare linens.
Tall chests make good use of vertical space and can be useful in smaller bedrooms. Wide chests are easier to access across the top and can create extra display or dressing space, but they need more wall width.
Choose a finish that works with your existing bedroom scheme. Wood-effect and natural wood finishes add warmth, white and grey can feel clean and versatile, while darker colours can create a more defined, furniture-led look.
Check the height, width and depth, drawer configuration, handle style, material information and any assembly requirements. It is also worth confirming that the drawers will open comfortably in your chosen position.
A chest of drawers is one of the most useful pieces of bedroom storage, offering organised space for folded clothing and smaller essentials without taking over the room. Use this guide to compare shapes, sizes and features before choosing.
Before comparing styles, measure the wall or alcove where the chest of drawers will sit. Allow extra clearance in front so drawers can open fully and you can stand comfortably while using them.
If floor space is limited, a taller, narrower chest may be the better fit. For larger bedrooms, a wide chest can provide more storage in fewer vertical layers and give you a useful surface for a mirror, tray or lamp.
Different drawer layouts suit different routines. Smaller top drawers are handy for socks, belts, jewellery or accessories, while deeper lower drawers are better for jumpers, jeans or bulkier folded items.
If the chest will be shared, a symmetrical layout can make it easier to divide space. For a child’s room, guest room or spare bedroom, a simpler three or four-drawer chest may provide enough everyday storage.
A chest of drawers does not have to match every item exactly, but it should feel considered alongside your bed, wardrobe and bedside tables. Look at colour, handle finish, leg shape and overall silhouette when comparing options.
For a coordinated room, you may want to compare it with wider bedroom furniture choices. If you prefer a mixed look, keep one element consistent, such as a shared wood tone or similar handle colour.
Consider how the chest of drawers will be used every day. Smooth-running drawers, practical handles and easy-to-clean surfaces can make a noticeable difference in a busy bedroom.
If the top surface will hold cosmetics, drinks or decorative items, check the finish and care guidance. A more durable surface may be useful in family bedrooms or rooms where furniture gets frequent use.
A chest of drawers works best when it complements the rest of the bedroom layout. Position it where it will not block doors, wardrobe access or walkways, and avoid placing it where open drawers could clash with other furniture.
If you are refreshing the whole room, compare the chest alongside other bedroom pieces so the proportions feel balanced. This can help prevent a compact room from feeling overcrowded or a larger room from feeling under-furnished.
