Tower Airfryers: Your essential buying guide
Think about how many people you usually cook for and what foods you make most often. Compact airfryers suit snacks, sides and smaller households, while larger baskets or dual-drawer models are better for cooking mains and sides at the same time.
A single-basket airfryer is straightforward and often suits simple meals or smaller portions. A dual-drawer airfryer is useful if you want to cook two foods separately, especially when they need different temperatures or cooking times.
Useful features to compare include adjustable temperature settings, preset programmes, shake reminders, viewing windows, removable dishwasher-safe parts, sync-finish functions on dual drawers and the overall footprint on your worktop.
An airfryer can handle many everyday dishes such as chips, vegetables, chicken portions and reheated leftovers, but it may not replace an oven for large trays, big roasts or batch baking. The best choice depends on your cooking habits and kitchen space.
Look for removable baskets, non-stick cooking drawers and accessories that are simple to wash. If dishwasher-safe parts matter to you, check the product details carefully, as cleaning instructions can vary by model.
Airfryers vary widely in size, layout and cooking features, so it helps to compare more than just the headline capacity. Focus on how much food you cook, where the appliance will sit and which controls will make day-to-day meals easier.
Capacity is one of the most important differences between airfryers. Smaller models can be a practical choice for one or two people, quick lunches or side dishes, while larger airfryers suit bigger portions and more flexible meal planning.
Check whether the quoted capacity refers to a single drawer, total combined drawer space or the overall cooking chamber. The shape of the basket also matters, as a wide drawer can be easier for spreading food in a single layer.
Single-drawer airfryers are simple to use and can work well for everyday basics such as chips, vegetables and chicken pieces. They are often easier to fit into smaller kitchens, but you may need to cook foods in batches.
Dual-drawer airfryers are useful when you want separate cooking zones, such as one drawer for a main and another for a side. Oven-style airfryers may include shelves or trays, which can be helpful for layering food, although they may take up more worktop space.
Basic airfryers usually offer time and temperature controls, while more advanced models may include presets for common foods. Presets can be convenient, but adjustable manual controls are still important if you like to fine-tune cooking.
If you are comparing digital models, consider whether the display is easy to read and whether the buttons or dial layout feels straightforward. For dual-drawer models, sync or match-cook functions can help when preparing a full meal.
Airfryers are most convenient when the basket, tray or drawer can be removed easily after cooking. Non-stick surfaces and simple basket shapes can make washing up more manageable, especially if you use the appliance often.
Before choosing a larger model, measure your worktop and cupboard space. Some airfryers have a tall or deep footprint, so check both the appliance dimensions and the clearance needed for safe everyday use.
Airfryers are ideal for crisping and cooking many everyday foods, but they are not the only option for convenient kitchen prep. If you are refreshing your cooking set-up, it can be useful to compare them alongside other kitchen appliances that suit different tasks.
For example, some shoppers may pair an airfryer with a blender, food mixer, toaster or coffee maker depending on their routine. Keeping the comparison focused on how you actually cook will help you avoid paying for functions you rarely use.
