Eastpak Bum Bags: Your essential buying guide
Choose a compact bum bag if you only need space for cards, keys and a phone. Pick a larger design if you want to carry sunglasses, a small purse, travel documents, hand sanitiser or other day-to-day essentials without using a handbag or backpack.
Many modern bum bags have adjustable straps that allow them to be worn around the waist or slung across the chest. Check strap length and adjustability if you specifically want a crossbody fit, especially over coats or thicker layers.
Nylon and polyester are practical for lightweight everyday use and are often easy to wipe clean. Leather and leather-look bum bags can feel smarter for outfits and evenings out, while canvas styles give a more casual, relaxed look.
Yes, bum bags are popular for travel, events and festivals because they keep small essentials close and leave your hands free. Look for secure zips, internal pockets and a comfortable adjustable strap if you will be wearing one for long periods.
Compare capacity, number of compartments, zip security, strap adjustability, material, colour and how the bag sits when worn. If you plan to wear it under or over outerwear, check the strap length and shape to make sure it suits your usual outfits.
Bum bags are small, practical accessories that work well when you want easy access to essentials without carrying a larger bag. The best choice depends on how much you carry, where you will wear it and whether you want a sporty, casual or smarter look.
Start with your everyday essentials. A slim bum bag may be enough for a phone, keys and bank cards, while a wider or deeper style is better for a purse, sunglasses, travel pass, lip balm or small power bank.
If you dislike rummaging, look for multiple zipped compartments or an internal pocket. Separate sections can help keep valuables, coins and smaller items easier to find.
Traditional bum bags sit around the waist, which is useful for walking, sightseeing or keeping weight low and secure. Many shoppers now also wear them across the chest for a more casual streetwear-inspired look.
Check the strap adjustment range if you want both options. A strap that fits around the waist may not always be long enough to wear comfortably over a jumper, jacket or coat.
Sporty fabric bum bags are a practical choice for active days, commuting or travel because they are usually lightweight and flexible. Smooth leather-look or structured designs can feel more polished with casual tailoring, dresses or evening outfits.
Colour also matters. Black, beige and navy are easy to style, while bright shades, metallics or patterned designs can turn a simple bum bag into a statement accessory.
Zipped closures are useful when you are moving through busy places, while buckle fastenings should feel secure and easy to adjust. If you will wear the bag for long stretches, consider strap width and how the bag rests against your body.
For days out, festivals or travel, a low-profile shape can sit neatly under a jacket. For everyday errands, a slightly larger shape may be more convenient if you prefer not to carry any other bag.
A bum bag is ideal when you want hands-free storage for small items. If you need more capacity, it may be worth comparing it with other bag styles before deciding, especially for work, gym kit, shopping or overnight use.
Browsing the wider bags range can help you decide whether a compact waist bag is enough or whether a larger everyday option would suit your routine better.
